ENROLMENT

NEW ENTRANTS

Kia ora, I am Louise, the Room 3 New Entrant to Year 3  teacher at Broad Bay School. One of my passions is providing a safe and positive learning environment so students can take risks in their learning, embrace their mistakes, and persevere to learn and grow. Our programme supports a smooth transition to school from an early childhood setting.

YEARS 7–8

As a full primary school, we offer a local alternative to the larger intermediate schools in town. Our seniors have a special leadership role within the school, as mentors and role models to the younger students. Our curriculum takes full advantage of our beautiful environment and local community, with sailing sessions, beach water safety lessons, participation in the Smiths Creek planting program, and overnight stays at Ōtākou Marae. We take part in a wide range of inter-school activities, such as Stars on Stage, Polyfest, the EPro8 Technology challenge, athletics and other sports, and never fail to be impressed by and very proud of our students’ performance at these events. A close partnership with DNI ensures that our senior students don’t miss out on additional opportunities that are available at larger schools, such as technology classes, electives, and a wide range of sports teams.

High school principals have commented positively about the special quality of the students who come to them from Broad Bay School, and recent visitors have remarked on the true feeling of love and whānau within the school. We have a small but wonderful group of students in years 7 and 8, and would love to welcome more.

THE ENROLMENT PROCESS

You are welcome to get in touch at any time to arrange a visit and see first-hand what our school can offer your child. We always enjoy meeting new families and would be happy to show you around our classrooms.

If you intend to enrol your child at Broad Bay School, please tell us so we know you will be coming. You can complete our online enrolment form here, or pick up an enrolment pack from the office and return the completed forms to us before your child is due to start school. We are required to take a copy of the birth certificate (or passport) and immunisation record of all New Entrant children. These items must be sighted by Fiona in the office prior to your child’s first day at school.

In the 6 weeks before your child turns 5, they will be invited to join the junior class for visits from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on a day that is mutually agreeable. This will help your child to learn the school routine, build an understanding of expectations, and start to develop friendships.
